Place Structural Framing on Complex Surfaces in Revit Using Dynamo

From the Simply Complex blog:

Friday, September 15, 2017
By Marcello Sgambelluri

Have you ever wanted to create Beam framing in Revit to follow complex roof surfaces? It's simple! Just use DynamoBIM.

Follow the image below and you will be placing those beams in Revit in no time!

There's more information available on the The Simply Complex Blog.

Free RFO Benchmark V3.1 – How Fast Does Revit Run on Your Computer?

From the BIM Chapters blog:

RFO Benchmark; Revit and Hardware Speed Test

If you want to find out how fast Revit runs on your computer and then roughly compare those results with others, you will want to check out the Revit Forum's RFO Benchmark V3.1.

The details...

The RFO Benchmark V3.1 is a newly updated and totally automated script which opens and manipulates Revit models to see how fast your computer is under somewhat realistic working conditions. This version was updated by Gordon Price, of Pragmatic Praxis, and he gives thanks to others like Phil Read and Daniel Hurtubise.

Read more on the BIM Chapters blog »

Editor's Note: Dan Stine of BIM Chapters has written an excellent overview of the latest version of RFO Benchmark, which we excerpt here. However, he erroneously refers to the app being from Revit Forum. While that's where the app is published, it's actually developed by Gordon Price of Pragmatic Praxis, whom Dan does later give credit.
Correction: Dan confirmed that the app is officially released through the Revit Forum website. In fact, "RFO" stands for RevitForum.Org. The developer, Gordon Price of Pragmatic Praxis, is also one of the administrators of the Revit Forum. Apologies Dan!

INTELSYS Integration with SAP for Navisworks

From the Autodesk App Store:

INTELSYS Integration with SAP for Autodesk® Navisworks® enables Construction companies and Real Estate developers to manage the design and construction of projects in sync with their ERP system.

If you are already using SAP to run your business then INTELSYS Integration with SAP for Navisworks will make it easier to bridge the gap between design and execution.

You can easily do material take-offs and transfer the BOM to SAP where you can use the data with all your existing business processes for planning, procurement and reporting. SAP WBS and BOM data is visualized in Navisworks together with the BIM model to keep better track of the procurement and construction processes. This makes handling large amounts of material data easier.

What's Hot in Revit Add-ons for August 2017

Here on Revit Add-ons, with What's Hot, at about the middle of each month, we take a look back at the preceding month to see which posts published during that month received the most pageviews.

We published 114 posts in August 2017 (our most ever in a single month) and received 56,796 pageviews for our efforts.

The big performer for the month was our post about Revit API Docs, the free online searchable and extensible API documentation for Revit from Gui Talarico. It resonated so much with readers that it performed in a way that we'd only seen previously from our popular annual posts about Revit product enhancements from Autodesk. After the Revit API Docs post was published on August 6, it quickly moved into the #1 spot in our "Trending Top 10 for the Last 7 Days" list, where it's been ever since! The fact that the post is about an application development resource rather than a finished app or apps makes its performance that much more remarkable.

Here's the full list of posts that charted on What's Hot for the month:
  1. Free Revit API Docs – Web-based, Searchable and Extensible API Documentation from Gui Talarico
  2. Free Dynamo Progress Bar from designtech
  3. Twinmotion Dynamic Link from ABVENT
  4. BIM One & BuildingSP Partner for Clash Detection and Issue Management Workflows
  5. P&ID Modeler for Revit 2018.1 from Autodesk
  6. Free BIMxHTML – A Dynamo Package To Generate Web Pages from BIM Extension
  7. Free Model Checker Configuration Files Part 3 from CADD Microsystems

Congratulations to the originators!

Push Space Data into COBie.Component.Space with Dynamo

From the BIM Extension website:

Dynamo Graph to push Space data into COBie.Component.Space

September 7, 2017
By Jay Merlan

Here is a graph that I’ve thrown together that pushes the Revit Space number  into the COBie parameter “COBie.Component.Space” for elements that are within the Space, including elements above the ceiling.

Note that in order for this to include the elements in the area above ceilings (i.e., mechanical and electrical equipment), your spaces must use the “Upper Limit” parameter on your spaces to include the elements that are within the ceilings above the Space.
